Beyond the Call: A Trauma Informed Group for First Responders

For first responders, the end of a shift doesn’t necessarily mean the impact of the day ends with it. Difficult calls, repeated exposure to trauma, loss, responsibility, high pressure situations, and the expectation to keep functioning can accumulate over time.

We created Beyond the Call specifically for first responders because the mental and emotional impact of this work deserves a space where it can be understood without requiring a lengthy explanation of what the job is like.

This trauma informed group provides an opportunity to explore experiences related to stress, trauma, grief, burnout, coping, and the ways first responder work can affect life both on and off duty.

There is no expectation that you have to reach a breaking point before seeking support. Beyond the Call is intended to provide a space to step outside of the role for a little while, connect with others who understand the unique demands of the work, and develop ways of caring for yourself while continuing to do work that asks so much of you.

Sometimes taking care of the person behind the uniform is just as important as taking care of everyone else.
